Why I built Macro Friendly Meals

Updated 2026-10-08 - data v2026-10-08.2

I'm James Chen. A while back I wanted a simple answer to a simple question: what should I eat to hit my protein, carbs and fat without blowing my calories? I dug through websites, videos and a lot of spreadsheets. Two things stood out. Most of the useful details sat behind a paywall or under so many ads the page was hard to use, and almost all of them were saying the same things.

So I built a tool for myself. Halfway through, it hit me: none of this information is secret, so why keep it to myself? I believe everyday knowledge like this should be free and open to anyone. That's why this site is free, with no login and no ads, and the nutrition numbers come from USDA data.

I use it every day, and I keep improving it.

What it does

  • Food Finder shows which foods give you the most protein, fat or carbs for the fewest calories, or the tastiest way to still hit your goal.
  • Macros Left tells you what's left to eat today and suggests recipes that fill the gap, without the math.
  • Recipes are simple meals built around foods you actually want, your goal, and how much effort you have today. This isn't a gourmet blog; it's the tastiest food for the least work.
  • Build puts together a full day of meals for the mode you're in. It's the hardest part to get right, and the one I'm improving most.
